Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM) has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Best Community Impact Project Award’ by the India Water Foundation (IWF), recognising its innovative and technology-enabled approach to strengthening urban infrastructure across Gujarat.

Under the leadership of Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat has consistently prioritised planned urban development and smart governance. The award acknowledges GUDM’s implementation of a state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) that monitors sewer network cleaning operations across 156 municipalities in the state.

The initiative, undertaken under the guidance of Kanubhai Desai, Minister of Urban Development and Urban Housing, has significantly strengthened sewer network maintenance systems. The ICCC enables real-time monitoring, improved operational efficiency, enhanced accountability, and systematic maintenance planning.

The project has also facilitated water reuse initiatives, leading to the conservation of lakhs of litres of water, while contributing to environmentally sustainable and citizen-centric urban development. The award will be formally presented at the Water Transversality Global Awards and Conclave 2026, scheduled to be held in New Delhi on March 6–7, 2026, by the India Water Foundation.

This national recognition underscores Gujarat’s commitment to leveraging technology for civic infrastructure management, sustainable development, and improved quality of life for citizens across its urban local bodies.
