Ahmedabad: Swami Vivekananda Netra Mandir Trust (SVNM Trust) plans to build a ₹450-crore super-specialty eye hospital, ‘Drashti Dham’, in Supa village of Navsari district, Gujarat. The proposed facility will focus on advanced eye care, affordable treatment and rehabilitation services for visually impaired individuals.

The hospital is planned across approximately 16 bighas of land and will have 200 beds, 21 operation theatres and 64 outpatient department (OPD) rooms. According to the trust, the facility is expected to perform around 1.2 lakh eye surgeries annually, covering conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and retinal diseases, as well as corneal transplants.

SVNM Trust President Dr Bhavinbhai Patel said the hospital aims to provide specialised eye treatment at affordable rates or free of cost to underserved communities. The project is part of the trust’s ‘Ghar Ghar Drashti’ initiative, which seeks to expand access to eye screening and treatment.

The proposed facility will also include a rehabilitation centre for people with complete vision loss. SVNM Trust CEO Dr Dishantbhai Gandhi said the centre will provide mobility guidance, training in daily activities, digital skills and vocational education to support independent living and employment opportunities.

The trust has undertaken several community-focused initiatives to improve access to eye care. Under Project Drashti, it conducted more than 420 eye-screening camps between 2023 and 2026, screening over 51,800 people and carrying out 11,531 free surgeries, according to the organisation.

Other initiatives include Drashtimitra, which provides healthcare training to young women from remote villages; the SVNM Pragnyachakshu Skill Development and Training Center for people with vision loss; and Chashma Rath, which provides prescription spectacles in rural areas. The trust also conducts door-to-door eye screenings and collects used eyeglasses for redistribution with suitable lenses.

As part of its efforts to support the project, SVNM Trust has organised the cultural programme ‘Ghar Ghar Drashti – From Vision to Service’, featuring artist Mayabhai Ahir, at the AUDA Auditorium in Ahmedabad on October 27, 2026.

A nine-day Shri Ram Katha by spiritual leader Morari Bapu is also scheduled from December 5 to 13, 2026, at the Swami Vivekananda Netra Mandir campus in Supa village, Navsari. The proposed Drashti Dham project is intended to combine specialised eye treatment, preventive screening and rehabilitation services, with a focus on making vision care accessible to economically disadvantaged communities.
