New Delhi: In a landmark achievement for the Indian Armed Forces, nine women officers have successfully completed ‘Samudra Pradakshina’, the country’s first Tri-Service all-women global circumnavigation aboard the Indian Armed Services Vessel (IASV) Triveni.
The expedition covered nearly 25,500 nautical miles across four oceans over 314 days, demonstrating exceptional courage, endurance and operational excellence while highlighting the growing role of women in India’s defence forces.
The officers returned after navigating some of the world’s most challenging maritime conditions, marking a significant milestone in Tri-Service cooperation involving the Army, Navy and Air Force. The voyage showcased seamless jointmanship, leadership and the capability of women officers in undertaking long-duration, high-endurance missions.
Congratulating the team, Air Marshal P.V. Shivanand, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), South Western Air Command (SWAC), along with all SWAC personnel and their families, hailed the achievement as a proud moment for the nation and the Armed Forces. He commended the officers for exemplifying resilience, professionalism and the spirit of joint operations.
The successful completion of Samudra Pradakshina is expected to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in the Armed Forces while reinforcing India’s commitment to gender inclusion and operational excellence across the three Services.
