Kolkata : Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani announced plans to invest over ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035, spanning ports, logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution, roads, bridges and ropeways, green cement and hyperscale data centres.
Speaking at the foundation event of Adani Arogya Mandir in Kolkata, Adani said the group’s proposed investments are aimed at strengthening Bengal’s infrastructure, industrial ecosystem and employment opportunities. The Adani Arogya Mandir is planned as a 2,000-bed, world-class not-for-profit medical institution, including 1,000 beds for economically weaker sections eligible under state and central health insurance schemes. The project will also include a medical college, advanced research and healthcare facilities.
Adani said the group will invest more than ₹4,000 crore in the hospital, medical college and research infrastructure. The institution is expected to generate over 10,000 jobs across the healthcare ecosystem. Highlighting Bengal’s strategic location, Adani described the state as a potential maritime and logistics bridge connecting India’s industrial heartland and the Northeast with the Bay of Bengal and Southeast Asian trade routes.
He also announced commitments towards the restoration of the historic Writers’ Building, revitalisation of Kumartuli Ghat and initiatives to showcase Kolkata’s Durga Puja heritage globally. Referring to Gujarat’s Mundra port as the Adani Group’s first karmabhoomi in the West, Adani said he hoped Bengal would become the group’s second karmabhoomi in the East.
“Bengal is not simply an investment destination. It is a place where I want to build, to serve and most importantly, to belong,” he said.
Concluding his address, Adani said: “Bengal will awake, Bengal will progress; Bengal’s strength is India’s momentum.”
