Porbandar : The Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 1 (South Gujarat, Daman and Diu), under the aegis of Coast Guard Region (North West), successfully conducted an Area-Level Pollution Response Exercise-25 at Porbandar on October 26–27, 2026. Shri Sagar Modi, Mayor of Porbandar Municipal Corporation, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest on October 27.

The two-day exercise was designed around realistic pollution-response scenarios and involved surface assets of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The drills showcased the ICG’s integrated oil-spill response capabilities through the effective deployment of containment booms and skimmers, demonstrating operational preparedness to address marine pollution incidents.

The exercise also brought together key regional stakeholders, including the Gujarat Maritime Board, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), ESSO-Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE), and National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR). Their participation reinforced inter-agency coordination and collaboration in responding to marine pollution emergencies.

Strategic planning sessions, combined with practical demonstrations, provided valuable insights into strengthening joint response mechanisms and improving preparedness to safeguard Gujarat’s ecologically sensitive coastline.

As the designated national authority for oil-spill response, the Indian Coast Guard continues to lead marine environmental protection efforts under the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP). Through area-level pollution response exercises, the Coast Guard reaffirms its commitment to protecting the marine environment, enhancing stakeholder preparedness and strengthening the resilience of coastal communities. These initiatives reflect the Indian Coast Guard’s enduring commitment to its motto, “Vayam Rakshamah” (We Protect).
