Ahmedabad: The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) on Monday celebrated its 44th Foundation Day, highlighting the growing role of entrepreneurship in driving India’s socio-economic growth.
The event was attended by Kishor Kharat, former president of EDII and ex-MD & CEO of Indian Bank and IDBI Bank, who was the chief guest, along with Sunil Shukla, Director General of the institute. Dignitaries from government, industry, corporates and academia were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Kharat said entrepreneurs have played a key role in India’s rise to the world’s fifth-largest economy, emphasising their contribution to economic resilience and growth. He also highlighted the importance of mentoring and supporting young entrepreneurs.
Shukla, in his address, underlined the increasing relevance of entrepreneurship in the country’s development landscape, noting that the rise of technology and digital-first businesses is encouraging more youth to pursue entrepreneurship as a career.
On the occasion, EDII released two coffee table books — one featuring 55 success stories of its alumni, and another showcasing 100 beneficiaries of the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP), supported by the Ministry of Rural Development.
Officials said EDII continues to collaborate with central and state governments, as well as corporates, to promote enterprise creation and livelihood generation across sectors and regions.
